The 1001 Gathering
We are a missional church that gathers each week to Make God’s love real through conversation, connection and community change at the 1001 Service and in small groups that meet throughout the week. We actively participate in God’s mission to the world through:
- Missional Outreach: We have a portico breakfast that serves 150-200 hungry people each week with 25-35 volunteers. Joe Groups & Recovery gatherings meet throughout the week. Our partnership with Portico Housing helps provide housing for single men who are working.
- Missional Justice: The Justice team coordinates advocacy initiatives that seek to alleviate the conditions that oppress the poor.
- Missional Cafe: Our social enterprise, The Portico Cafe trains and employs people emerging for addiction, homelessness, and incarceration.
- Missional Practices: We teach contemplative practices and offer meditation gathering on Tuesday at 12:30 and Yoga on Monday evenings.
Sunday mornings at 10:01 look different than a traditional worship service. Diverse and inclusive, it is an environment for people seeking spiritual connection, who have struggled with church, or who have never connected with a worship community in the past. We are a community of new and long-time followers of Jesus, people in recovery, those who might need recovery, others struggling with faith, agnostics, skeptics, and people exploring the idea of a higher power. We are about reaching new people in new ways and connecting to the love of God revealed in Jesus Christ.
There's music, a time of silence (contemplation), discussion around a passage of Scripture around tables, and weekly communion. God speaks through the facilitated conversations. Pastor Justin delivers a short message that inspires and is practical.
Portico Kids is available from 9:45 to 11:01 a.m. Portico Kids has clean, safe, and an age-appropriate environment that fosters learning about Jesus.
