Stop and Smell the Roses
Have you stopped to smell the roses?
Here’s what I mean: When was the last time that you paused to celebrate transformation in your life, in a loved one’s life, or reflect upon the ways that God has been at work? I don’t always pause. Often, I just keep moving and don’t stop to gaze at the beauty of, nor pause to enjoy the aroma of the roses. But on Wednesday, I stopped. And was blown away by the power of love.
In The Portico Housing Solutions (PHS) Board meeting, it was shared that since its inception in 2016, over 65% of the men who participated successfully transitioned to their own housing with a full-time job. PHS’s purpose is to bridge men from homelessness to transformation through safe housing, mentoring, and Christ-based support.
This initiative started when a few people were frustrated with the options for employed, unhoused men who were coming to Open Arms on Sundays. In other words, God’s stoked Holy Discontent. A Hyde Park member donated a house. Love INC got involved. Another person lined up funding for a 2nd house. Over these years, many people including folks from Hyde Park, The Portico, Sacred Heart Church, and Love INC invested their time, talent, and treasure to make a dream a reality. And for the first 4 years, the whole thing was done with volunteers. It emerged out of a call to love from God. If you want to learn more of the story, email me or ask me the next time you see me.

Last Week’s Announcement: Last week we announced that The Gathering has a new time. It will meet on the 2nd Sunday at 10:01 a.m. at 1001 N. Florida in June and July; and is integrating talented musicians who will lead us in congregational singing.
Additionally, we announced that we will be moving to meeting weekly in the fall. We will announce the date when 15 more people commit to serve in Hospitality 1-2 times/month. Again, once solidified, we will announce the date. Email Justin to serve!
