Friday Contemplation: Remember the 94. Have you ever met a person a few times, yet you continue to forget their name? Doesn’t feel great. Perhaps it is embarrassing because it inadvertently communicates that the person isn’t important enough for you to remember their name.

I hear story after story from people who are experiencing homeless that no one cares to remember their name. I am grateful that we are a congregation who wants to know everyone’s name.

Names are important. So is remembering. At the Portico, we remember the people who die each year in Hillsborough County while homeless. In 2020, 112. In 2021, 94. Those 94 names are memorialized on the wall (see below).
